Wellingtonia 01

Click on image for larger viewI have been asked to show more from my Wellingtonia book. These are a selection of Makara pictures which appeared in the book. Makara is a rustic community on the south coast of Wellington. I have thousands of images of Makara because it is a wet brooding place, like the West Coast, which I love.

Flying People

Click on image for larger viewIn Manners Mall today and out of the sky dropped another flying lady. Flying and marching seems to be a recurring theme of mine. See my Flying Indian (August 20th) below.

These two were made in Cuba Mall many years ago.

Both these bottom photographs appear in my 2006 book Wellingtonia. The word Wellingtonia comes from the name of an exhibition I had in the Museum of City and Sea. The word was part of their theme at the time. Now I find it corny and I wish I could rub the 'ia' off each book. Ahhh well.

The book is still for sale. See my web site for details.

Heavensgate

Click on image for larger viewWay back in 1985 I made a spoof documentary (with drama school students) about the then new gated communities in Havelock North. We called it Heavensgate after the recent mass suicides of the American Applewhite cult. In the film God changed his mind and sent them to Kingsgate (instead of Heavensgate). I visited Kingsgate the other day and it hasn't changed.

India 37

As mentioned in a blog below (India 6) there are many similarities to early American street scenes in India. I remember the Walker Evans photographs of American towns during the 1930's depression. These photographs were made only three weeks ago.
